Our Team

The Centre is run by a diverse team of professional counsellors. All of our staff are either accredited by the I.A.C.P. and/or I.A.H.I.P.(Irish Association of Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy) or are working towards accreditation. We all work within recognised codes of ethics and the highest professional standards. The professional team is also supported by a voluntary Board of Directors.

Maria Huss (Clinical Director)

M.A. Clinical Psych., B.A. Psych, Dip. Supervision, M.I.A.C.P., B.D.P.

Maria Huss is a clinical psychologist, integrative humanistic psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor. She has worked in the public, private and voluntary sector in Germany and Ireland sicne 1972. She founded The Centre in 1985 and is currently the clinical director and is also a primary trainer on its IACP recognised Diploma Course.

Karen Walsh

MSc. Psychotherapy, B.A Applied Psychology, Dip. Coun, M.I.A.C.P.

Karen Walsh began her studies with an honours degree in applied psychology. She followed this with Diploma in 1990 and later completed a Masters in Psychotherapy in London (Metanoia & Middlesex University). She worked in private practice and consultancy until 1998. In 1999 she was employed as a fulltime trainer and senior practitioner in The Centre and in 2002 she was appointed Director of Training. She continues to work with a number of clients. She is particularly interested in attachment studies and in legal issues and professional complaints in psychotherapy. She is an accredited member of IACP and is also an accredited supervisor. She has recently been appointed as a member of the National Course Recognition Committee of the IACP.

Laura Maybury

M.A. Coun. Psych., B.A. (hons) Psychology, Reg. Psychol. Ps.S.I., M.I.A.C.P.

Laura Maybury is a Registered Psychologist and Accredited Counsellor. She holds a first class honours Degree in Psychology and a first class Masters in Psychology. Laura has experience of clients ranging in age from 5 to 95 in a variety of voluntary, public and private organisations. Laura has been involved in a number of research projects and was awarded the Psychological Society of Ireland's Psychology Research Bursary in 2007. She also worked as assistant course director, lecturer, and facilitator in UCC. She is currently a member of the training team with special responsibility for marking coordination. She also heads the foundation Course.
