Other Projects Every year we run a number of other programmes and projects. Positive Mental Health & Suicide Prevention programmeIn 2006 the the Centre applied for and received funding from the Ireland Funds to run a Suicide Prevention & Positive Mental Health programme in postprimary schools. We recognised the need for intervention in schools given the high suicide rate among teenagers. We offered an element of life skills training, particularly around age related issues, problem and crisis; thus creatively exploring their own feelings and learning to express their difficulties verbally. The Centre identified schools from the RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning Investment & Development) areas. Transition year classes from the schools were brought to the Centre and learned about facts and myths around suicide, risk factors and warning signs, support and resources. We worked directly with approximately 100 students during the programme. The indirect impact would be even more wide reaching including student peers, families, teachers etc. The schools expressed interest in repeating this programme, and due to its initial success, the Centre developed and expanded the existing project. This programme has been sponsored in the past by AIB Better Ireland Awards, ESB Electric Aid and money raised from the annual Evening Echo Womens mini-marathon. If you are interested in sponsoring this programme please contact the Centre.Parenting Every year the we also offers a Parenting programme which was set up in response to the growing needs of parents going through divorce or separation.
