The Counselling Centre Training Institute

The Cork Counselling Centre Training Institute is one of the most established teaching programmes in counselling in Ireland. Our training is part time so that it is possible to train and study for a new career while maintaining current employment.

We are also one of the few teaching colleges that can offer in-house supervised practice for our students.

As well as our Foundation Course which is run over 9 weeks, we offer a diploma in professional counselling which is recognised by the ICAP. Currently applicants for this course need to be 25 years of age and have completed a foundation Course in counselling. The diploma course runs over two years and is followed by a practice placement. The diploma fulfils the academic requirements for accreditation with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Professional accreditation requires candidates to fulfil a further 450 hours practice with clients post graduation.

“In my view, what sets the training at the Cork Counselling Centre apart from any other counselling course currently being offered is the focus on experiential learning and personal development, rather than on academic training. It’s also the reason why the Cork Counselling Centre is held in such high esteem in the counselling profession”.
(Diploma Graduate: P. Sheehan)

In response to market demand a top up degree programme will be offered in 2011. The degree will be part of university collaboration. It will allow students to deepen their knowledge of theory practice and research and gain a greater understanding of client issues and ho w to work with them. The degree will also be part of the institute’s response to future statutory registration of counsellors.
