Our Training Team

The training team has 5 core trainers who meet approximately once a month. Two of these are IACP Primary trainers.In addition to the core team there are also four trainers who are involved with students on foundation and also do some workshops with Diploma students.

Maria Huss - Clinical Director

M.A.Clinical Psych. B.A. Psych. Dip. Supervision MIACP BDS FPI GWG

Maria Huss is a highly experienced clinical psychologist, integrative humanistic psychotherapist trainer and supervisor. She has worked in the public, private and voluntary sector in Germany and Ireland since 1972.She founded the Centre in 1985. She is currently clinical director and is also a primary trainer on its IACP recognised Diploma course.

Karen Walsh - Director of Training

M.Sc. Psychotherapy, B.A. Applied Psychology, Dip. Coun, M.I.A.C.P.

Karen Walsh began her studies with an honours degree in applied psychology. She followed this with a Diploma in 1990 and later completed a Masters in Psychotherapy in London (Metanoia & Middlesex University). She worked in private practice and consultancy until 1998.

In 1999 she was employed as a fulltime trainer and practitioner in the Cente and in 2002 she was appointed director of training. She continues to work with a number of clients. She is particularly interested in attachment studies and in legal issues and professional complaints in psychotherapy. She is an accredited member of IACP and is also an accredited supervisor. She has recently been appointed as a member of the National Course Recognition Committee of the IACP.

Laura Maybury - Trainer

M.A. Coun. Psych., B.A. (hons) Psychology, Reg. Psychol. Ps.S.I., M.I.A.C.P.

Laura Maybury is a Registered Psychologist and Accredited Counsellor. She holds a first class honours Degree in Psychology and a first class Masters in Psychology. Laura has experience with clients ranging in age from 5 to 95 in a variety of voluntary, public and private organisations. Laura has been involved in a number of research projects and was awarded the Psychological Society of Ireland's Psychology Research Bursary in 2007. She is currently a member of the training team with special responsibility for marking coordination. She also heads the Foundation Course.

Deirdre Cahill - Apprentice Trainer

Diploma in Coun

Having raised two wonderful children Deirdre completed a Foundation Course at the Centre's Training Institute. As senior student during her training she participated co-facilitating Foundation students. This experience sparked the beginning of a keen interest in working with groups and group processes.

After graduation she became involved in teaching foundation students and assumed responsibility in 2008 for the foundation year. In 2009 Deirdre began an apprenticeship course in Training. On the training team she is the tutor coordinator. She is currently in private practice and also works at a local Family Resource Centre providing crisis intervention to individuals.

Philippa McInerney - Associate Trainer

B.Soc.Sc, CQSW Dip.SW, MSc Integrative Psychotherapy (Middlesex University)

Philippa has worked in private practice since 1990 as a psychotherapist, counsellor, supervisor and trainer. She works with children and adults, both individually and in groups. She was based in Ireland until January 2005 when she moved to North London, where she now has a private practice.  She is a part-time tutor and viva examiner on the Integrative Psychotherapy MSc course at Metanoia Institute in London.  She is particularly interested in working with trauma and currently works with an international aid agency as a therapist and trainer. She has also trained in creative therapies, particularly psychodrama and sand tray therapy, and incorporates these into her work.She is involved with the Centre as an associate trainer. 

Julie  MacLeod - Associate Trainer

D. Clin. Psych. (University Of Newcastle), M.A. Psychology (National University of Ireland), M.Sc. Clin. Psych. (University of Aberdeen), B.A. Applied Psychology (NUI).

Julie’s career began in 1979 in UCC where she held various posts including tutor, experimental demonstrator, research assistant and assistant lecturer.  In 1986 having completed training in clinical psychology she was employed as a clinical psychologist in the North West of Ireland and in Grampian Scotland. In 1999 she completed her training in Gestalt Therapy with the Polsters in San Diego. Julie has always had a particular interest in training and was the Grampian Area Heads of Service representative on the NES (National Education For Scotland)/East of Scotland University, Clinical Psychology Training Committee which was based at Edinburgh University. Later she became a member of the Scottish Head of Psychology Services Committee which provided advice to NES on matters relating to the training of psychologists within the NHS (National Health Service).

She returned to Ireland in 2008 and is currently employed as the service manager of the HSE   (Irish National Health Service) clinical psychology service. In 2010 Julie was appointed to the Psychological Society of Ireland Working Group set up to provide guidelines for the profession on Confidentiality and Record Keeping . Julie is an associate trainer and is a consultant to the training institiute in the designing of new training programmes.
